Good Housekeeping Good Ideas Workshop

Good Housekeeping Magazine held a Good Idea Workshop at Robinson Place Manila  on August 18,2012 featuring items from 3M Commando products. And it's always fun to join every workshop organized by Good Housekeeping Magazine.

Above is a new advertisement concept a digital spokeperson that they even cut up into a shape of a person. Nice Idea. First time to see it.

Above are the prices to be given out in the contest: consolation price and the grand prize in the raffle in the 3M floor mat that cost P6k. Didn't win any major price only the small prizes. Below are the product being promoted by 3M at the events.

The host of the day is Ms. Jackie Lou Blanco. Still look beautiful.

After the workshop and the price has raffle we were given each one a lunch box which consist of a stir fry veggie, rice, banana and some stew pork can't say it's adobo. Plus a bottle of mineral water.

Above are the freebies (plus the consolation prize) they gave out  after the workshop.

My sister and I got lucky to have a picture taken with Ms. Jackie Lou Blanco.

La Scala Cafe a real Museum Cafe

I was able to receive a 50% discount from the Little Black coupon for La Scala Cafe and tried to  use it myself since it's good for 1 person only. But to my surprise collectibles from 50's greeted me inside. and the staff even tell me that I can take some picture of. it.

La Scala Cafe signage at the 2/Fl. will clearly indicate that they have antique and collectible. Even their staff advice that the antique inside the restaurant in only 1/3 of the owner collection. Wow!! where did the owner kept the 2/3 of his collection. The Operating hour is from 5pm to 2am; guess they're catering to foreigner around the vicinity of Malate.

Upon entering the restaurant the superman statue at the bar caught my eyes.

A wide array of Coca Cola collectible including the Yoyo's. Never know Coke produce this giant coke in the Philippines before. They even have the tiny coke.

Their menu board was copied as a vinyl record during the 50-70's period.

Well lite dining area and comfy chair with a nice view of the adjacent 3 star hotel.

The cute table setting. Below is my order of Squid Sigsig which cost P195.00 per order and they even serve it with 1 of their antique plate which for other will have been kept in a lock and key.

Above is an order of Cadereta with slices of chorizo and melted cheese. Now that's a twist to a Filipino most love dish. The beef super tender and the cheese even compliment the beef and the chorizo. This cost around P295.00 including the rice.

The fried calamares and Onion Ring. The price is P295.00 per order but in the picture the calamares has been half already before I was able to take the picture. The Tartar sauce compliment the fried calamares and Onion ring. Thumbs up for this.

Kanin Club at Paseo de Sta.Rosa, Laguna

It's that time of the month that me and my son has a delivery to Laguna plus collection that we start to try some of the eatery located sta. Rosa, Laguna. First we did try the Pig out at Nuvali and now Kanin club at Unit H Adelaida Arcade, Paseo de Sta. Rosa, Don Jose, Sta. Rosa City

You can either want to choose the outside sitting area or the air conditioning sitting area. But if you're a smoker choose the outside sitting area so that people inside will not smell the cigars.

What catch my attention in the ceiling is there use of the Philippine banig in the decoration of their ceiling.

As you can see in their Menu Kanin Club has already have 4 branches to serve their unique twist of the Filipino Dish.

This is not your regular Nestea Ice tea because they use the Philippine calamansi instead of Lemon because I can taste the calamansi in it. And the size super big almost around 1 liter and price is only P54.00 per glass but in case you want unlimited ice tea the price is at P84.00

At first I thought this was just a regular garlic rice with kripy Kangkong but after I consume the Krispy Kangkong 2 slices of pork belly reveal themselves. So I ask my son what did you order. This is a sinigang na sinangag. There was also fresh finger chili inside the rice which make me think do I dare eat them?  To my surprise they were not that spicy. A soup that was made into rice; quite unique that keep me guessing did they boil their rice in the soup or did they use the sampaloc in stir frying their rice. An order of this cost P200 good for sharing of 2-3 person

The Bistek Tagalog a bit salty to be accompanied with the sinangag. My son had this for take out and accompany it with his plain congee. Price is P167.00

The Adobo combo which compose of chicken, pork and some pork liver. The sauce has the right thickness to add with the rice.  Price for this is P187.00

Since Kanin Club open I know that their signature dish is the Krispy dinuguan which I never got to try since my kids never like dinuguan. Maybe if they open more branches I might get to try it one day.

Ming Yuen unlimited dimsum from Groupon a disappointment

I thought I posted this after redeeming my daughter voucher but luckily my posting of this review at Open Rice is still available.

To those who plan to buy discount voucher your best bet now is to buy the buffet or the eat all  you can buffet table; since the food are on display and it's up to you if you can eat all the food they're offering. Got 2 disappointing meal from discount voucher already. But very happy with Vikings Buffet discount.

Ming Yuen located at the 4/f of Robinson Place Manila, Ermita, Manila. Operating house is base on Mall hours.
The table set up. Comfy sofa chair.

The Ceiling decoration.

Upon sitting advice of Ming Yuen staff that 3 items is only available for the unlimited Dimsum promo which my daughter pay P1,600 for 4 people. The Fried Spring Roll, Chicken Feet and the Siomai. 2 order of chicken feet and fried spring roll shocked

There was no additional order of the Chicken feet because they said they run out of stock

The Fried Sio Long Pao Price : P100 per order of 4 pieces not included in the promo

The 4 order of siomai in a big steamer basket making it a total of 16 pieces. We were able to get this a total of 3 times afterward they said no more stock.

The steam Sio Long Pao Price : P95.00 per order of 4 pieces

Poor
The Fried Onion Pancake. Price : P105.00 for 1 pancake. And it took almost 1/2 an hour to cook it.
Original Onion pancake is flaky because a frozen on is available in Binondo.

After computing base on their menu we just reach the amount my daughter paid for the voucher. This discount voucher is really a disappointment especially on the side of the merchant. If you're not willing to do as promise then better not join the company offering discount, people will get mad and will not come back especially since the price of Ming Yuen is already quite high than other dimsum restaurant.

Dissappointment with Pizzaville discount voucher at Ensogo

Above picture is from Pizzaville promoting their discount at P925.00 for a 30" Pizza for 4 flavor. Below is our order of the 30" pizza too dry not a lot of cheese was added which my daughter paid at P990.00 Even the one with white dot as 3 cheese can only see that cheese in it. Our order was suppose to be 3 cheese pizza, all meat work, Chicken BBQue and Chorizo Longaniza pizza.

Below picture not sure if it's the all meat work can only see a few pieces of ham, ground beef, salami.

Picture below still guessing Chicken barbeque or the Chorizo Longaniza? Everything has the same flavor no distinction. I think they just use regular quick melt cheese and the sauce they just spread it as thinly as possible so when the pizza was cook everything is so dry. That if you have to re cook it you have to add more sauce and cheese.

The purpose of the voucher is for the merchant to buy their product in advance when the price of commodity is still low.  My daughter have already brought it 2 months ago therefore there's already an interest in it.

Even if Pizzaville continue to drop their price and still continue to lessen the items in their pizza; people will wake up to the disadvantage of the discount voucher. Not a single merchant will sell at a lost; they will either make the food smaller or make those topping even fewer.

And this is my 2nd disappointment from a discount voucher. The first is Ming Yuen for unlimited dimsum which the staff said they ran out of stock  and it just 12nn and all this voucher need to make an advance reservation. If there is nothing to serve what will the next customer eat?  This is their way of counting how much a voucher buyer may consume.

And the best voucher to buy is the buffet or the eat all you can table. This way it's your fault if you can't consume all that much food.
